Activities

  • Greytown Rail Trail – there is a walking/biking path from the Railway station into Greytown. Just walk or drive to the other side of the railway 800m down the road and follow the signs.
  • Tauherenikau Loop – there is a walking/biking path at the end of the Underhill Rd (turn right at the gate and keep going). It is a 10 minute bike ride (easy) to the off road path and the river, or you can drive down and walk to the river bridge. If you want you can ride all the way to Featherston from the other end of the bridge.
  • Stargazing https://www.underthestars.co.nz/  – Under The Stars offers the only award winning nomadic astronomy tours in the Wairarapa, providing private stargazing sessions and school space education wherever you are in the region.
  • Patuna Chasm walkhttps://www.patunafarm.co.nz/ – the web site isn’t great, but the walk is amazing. Make sure you are prepared for a 3 hour walk mostly walking in a river. The walk is not too hard, but you will get wet up to hip height. Make sure you have good walking shoes that can get wet. A backpack will be able to be taken and not get wet (unless you choose to do the optional swim at the end). Take food with you as you are a long way from anywhere and you will probably be gone for at least 4 hours with the time for drop off and pick up included.
  • Vineyards – there are a lot of vineyards in the Wairarapa that you can go to Cellar door tastings for. We can provide a drop off and pick up service if you want to drink and not drive. A good place to start is https://www.wairarapawine.co.nz/
  • Shoc Chocolate – if you like chocolate be sure to visit Shoc on the Main road through Greytown. Go back to the main road, turn left and its not far down on the right hand side of the road.
  • Cobblestone Museum – Go back to the main road, turn left and its not far down on the right hand side of the road. Cobblestones Museum is a working historic village run almost entirely by volunteers.
  • Stonehenge Aotearoa – Stonehenge Aoteroa is New Zealand’s unique open air astronomical observatory, built following ancient knowledge of the stone circles and adapted to the conditions of New Zealand. We look forward to seeing you here during our regular opening hours and for special events.
  • Greytown Honey– Come and join us for a Beekeeping Experience, get up close and personal with our bees and follow the process through a factory tour and finished with a full honey tasting! BOOK NOW!
